Leg #3 Phase 2 and Camp No Limits PART 1

Friday on the way to Camp No Limits, we stopped to pick up Toby's temporary leg in Gainesville. Toby was so excited about getting his new leg that he kept touching his prosthetic and saying "Paul". In fact...he still is. Not sure if he really knows that Paul is making his legs or that he's named his leg after Paul:)

We picked up Toby's temporary leg which as you can see has a clear shell at this point.
We have a new foot that is two sizes larger than his old foot. Paul glued the socket to the foot and wrapped it with fiberglass. I must say that was a little concerning to me. Just glue? Apparently, it's glue that would hold two moving trucks together so Toby will be just fine until the final product is made. We return Wednesday and hopefully get the permanent leg. It's a good thing too...because there is a huge crack in the top of the shell that has gotten bigger throughout the day today. We're going to put the old one on him in the am because we're scared the temporary leg will break.

Thanks to all of you who made it to Tropical Smoothie on Thursday! We really appreciate your support. We had a great turnout and was able to raise some money for the Camp:)

There are not enough positive words to describe the inspiring, motivating, and caring people we met at Camp No Limits this past weekend! There were all types of amputees - upper arm, lower arm, above knee, and lower knee. There were children and adults at the Camp who have limb loss due to congenital deficiencies, diseases, and accidents.

I have so many great stories but first let me tell you about Toby's reaction! This may sound a bit cheesy...but Toby was so at ease with everyone. We weren't there 10 minutes before he was loving all over his future girlfriend Erica and hugging Katelyn - a 6 year old girl born without an arm. He had a great time running and playing with the kids all weekend. Everyone loved Toby. One girl told me that Toby is going to be a heart stopper!

Here is Erica on the left and Katelyn (scooter girl) on the right!

Here's Toby at lower limbs PT. If you look hard, you will see his booty sticking up in the air. He was wrestling another little boy - named Tim - who was our roommate. Tim lost his leg above the knee due to a complication after birth. He was so amazing and reminded us of a young Harry Potter.
Here's a great shot of all the lower limb amputees doing core strengthening:) They made a tunnel and let the little kids crawl through.

This is Harvey. Boy you should see him when he's awake! He's hyper. He's fast. And... He's always on a mission! Harvey is from England and is known to be the youngest (4 years old) above knee bilateral amputee that has "C-legs" ... a microprocessor controlled knee prosthesis. He lost both of his legs at age 2 from Meningitis. He has been traveling the States competing in races and has already won several medals. He stops at nothing!

This is Josh. Josh was our talent night MC. He is amazing. He is without 2 arms, 2 legs, and a lower jaw bone. This young man can do anything we do... he writes, types, serves his own food, etc. Truly amazing and such a blessing to be around:)

I have so much more.... stay tuned....

Kaley
